SEREMBAN: No criminal elements have been detected in the death of a Form Four girl who fell from a school block in Sendayan near here.
State CPO Dep Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad (pic) said that preliminary investigations and the post-mortem results also showed there were no elements of bullying or foul play in the death of the 16-year-old student.
"The post-mortem carried out at the Rembau Hospital last Friday (June 19) identified the cause of death as a head injury due to falling from a height," he told reporters as reported in Sinar Harian on Monday.
He said the case was still classified as sudden death but investigations were ongoing.
DCP Alzafny said between 10 and 15 individuals have been called in to have their statements recorded to assist with the investigation.
These included the victim's parents, teachers and schoolmates.
"I would like to advise the public not to make their own conclusions about this incident or spread unverified information and to respect the teenager's family," he said.
Last Friday, DCP Alzafny said police were alerted to the incident at about 10.50am and a team was immediately dispatched to the school.
On the same day, Education director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad, when met at the Rembau Hospital, said no elements of bullying had been detected in the case.
He said the victim, who fell from the third floor, had asked permission to go to the toilet before being found unconscious.
The incident, he said, occurred during an academic reporting day that allowed parents to get information about their children's progress and achievements
The state Education Department, in a statement, had also expressed sadness over the incident.
It said the police were investigating the incident and would provide full cooperation to the ongoing probe.
The department said it had also initiated an internal investigation into the matter.
It said its priority was to provide the best possible assistance to the family and extend psychosocial support to all affected members of the school community.
