KJ to campaign for Umno in Johor, keeps mum on contesting

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin says he will be on the ground for the party during the upcoming Johor state election campaign.

The nomination date for the Johor election is set for June 27 with early voting on July 7 and polling day on July 11.

“Yes I will be there,” he told the press briefly after the launch of Safe Child, Strong Nation campaign by Child Protection Society Malaysia, here on Monday (June 22).

When asked if he would contest in the Negri Sembilan state election, Khairy merely said it was best to ask the party (leadership) about the matter.

“I don’t know, you have to ask the party,” said the former Rembau MP.

The Negri Sembilan state election is expected to take place on Aug 1. The state assembly was dissolved on June 5 following the withdrawal of support by 14 Barisan Nasional assemblymen.
