Showcase of creativity

LIMKOKWING University of Creative Technology presented its collections at the Borneo Fashion Week 2017 in Kuching. Sarawak.

The audience was treated to a dazzling array of various cultures captured effortlessly through the university’s fashion label specially for its Hari Raya Aidilfitri collection called Malaysian Soul. The Limkokwing Fashion Club embedded traits from the Malay, Chinese, and Indian cultures into the designs of Malaysian Soul.

From the sleek gold designs to the chic black layering, all of the patterns imprinted in the collection showcased the unique ethos in Malaysia.

In addition, the university also presented cultural pieces that were first unveiled to the public at the 2017 London Fashion Week.

It was the fruit of limitless creativity from the varioty’s students that were not bound by rules and methods taught in the classroom.

The presentation proved to the public that the university has been at the forefront as a pioneer and creative hub for young minds in Malaysia.

The fashion showed individualistic expressions of creativity and braveness related to the university’s founder and president Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing’s vision about creative education.

The collection captures the essences of Asian and African cultures, which were then blended resulting in a unique fusion of fashion.

Touted as one of the world’s most international universities, the varsity also incorporated Sarawak culture through its various other designs and styles presented at the event.

Appointed as the event’s official education sponsor, the university granted two scholarships worth RM120, 000 to winners of the “Emerging Fashion Designer 2017” award.

The scholarships – a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design and a Diploma in Fashion & Apparel Design, were granted to Azhar Zainal of AZ Brothers and Yacub Taha of Yacutha respectively.

Winners of the award were hand-picked and judged based on design originality, outstanding creativity and quality of workmanship, among other attributes.

In addition, the “Most Promising Sara-wakian Designer 2017” award was granted to the creative forces behind Von Jolly Couture, Datuk Raymond Jolly and Aaron G. Von Jolly for their inspiring works and achievements in the fashion industry.

The Borneo Fashion Week 2017 panel of judges included Datin Nikki Lugun, the varsity’s director of Corporate Communications, Jazalo Equalliance Sdn Bhd Creative Director/Designer Amir Luqman and Borneo Medispa Founder and Managing Director Dr Esther Michael.

Guests included the wife of Sarawak governor Toh Puan Ragad Kurdi Taib, Stephanie Alcantara, Datin Esther Balan, Datin Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang and Datin Amar Fatimah Mohd Iskandar.
