MPS hits 97% assessment tax collection

Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) collected RM70.38mil in assessment tax as of June 30 this year.

MPS president Shahman Jalaludin (pic) said this represented 96.72% of the RM72.76mil due for the first half of 2026.

“For assessment arrears, RM6.95mil − 60.45% of RM11.5mil − has been recovered so far,” he said during the council’s full board meeting yesterday.

He said 78.09% of the collected tax was paid through digital channels, with RM35.56mil transacted directly via the MyMPS portal.

“MPS also started issuing assessment tax bills via WhatsApp this year, with 97,463 accounts receiving digital bills as of June.

“Property owners who have not updated their contact details are required to do so online, so that the council can issue their bills electronically.”

He disclosed that MPS issued 36,701 seizure warrants as of June 30 to property owners with outstanding assessment tax payment exceeding RM200.
