Tourism body targets RM18mil sales at JB fair

Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association has set a target of generating some RM18mil in sales at its travel fair next month.

Its chairman Vin Ng said the association also hoped to attract more than 30,000 visitors to the three-day Malaysia International Travel Mart (MITM Travel Fair), scheduled for July 17 to 19 at Sutera Mall.

“We will have about 100 booths, including 20 travel agencies, as well as airlines, cruise operators and hotels.

“The travel packages offered also include destinations popular among the public here, such as China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Europe and Australia,” he said at a press conference.

Ng said the association was confident it could reach the target despite the ongoing Middle East crisis.

“The crisis has affected the tourism sector, but I believe the impact is not that significant as we are still receiving holiday bookings from travellers.

“We continue to see strong demand for overseas travel and, for now, China seems to be the most popular destination.

“This includes places such as Beijing, Xi’an, Shanghai, Yunnan and Xinjiang,” he said, adding that he expected demand to continue growing.

Ng said apart from the travel packages offered, MITM visitors could also enjoy special discounts on tour packages, including “buy one, free one” deals.

“They also stand a chance to get cash rebates, travel vouchers, complimentary gifts with bookings, as well as exclusive cruise and long-haul travel promotions at the fair.

“We also have lucky draws, allowing visitors a chance to win travel vouchers.

“Visitors can get one lucky draw ticket for every RM500 spent during the travel fair,” he added.
