A community park in Lintang Nau, Kampung Raja Uda in Port Klang, now features a simple yet meaningful tribute to community spirit and generosity, following the installation of three concrete benches in memory of the late Govindasamy Sengal Rao.
The benches bear the inscription “Govindasamy Legacy Bench”, honouring the respected figure and Class A road contractor who had donated the land in Selangor to a housing developer for the creation of a public park.
Paid for by Govindasamy’s great-grandchildren, the installations were part of an initiative organised by Govindasamy’s grandson, T. Ashok Kumar.
Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) Zone N47D councillor Sharon Chia witnessed the completion of the benches.
Ashok Kumar said the benches were a tribute to his grandfather’s contribution to the neighbourhood and wider Port Klang community.
He added that the park, which was over 50 years old, remained an important recreational space for residents.
“He lived on this very land, developed Lintang Nau and set aside a portion of it as a park for the community.

“Today as we dedicate the Govindasamy Legacy Bench, we remember not just a man, but a life that continues to give.
“This bench stands as a symbol of what my grandfather left behind – not merely land, but a gift to the community, a place where families can gather, rest and find joy,” he said.
Ashok Kumar said his grandfather’s legacy was shaped not only by personal achievements, but also by his contribution to others.
“In donating this land for a park, he created something that will serve generations to come.
“May all who sit here feel a sense of peace, connection and gratitude, and remember that a meaningful life is one that leaves something behind for others,” he said.
Each bench bears words reflecting values associated with Govindasamy’s life: harmony, kindness and happiness on one, calm, reflection and bliss on another, and peace, unity and joy on the third.
Chia said the benches added to the park’s value as a neighbourhood space for rest and recreation.
She said MBDK planned to further improve the community space with solar lights and concrete walking path.
Residents who attended the bench installation expressed appreciation for the gesture, saying such contributions helped preserve the spirit of togetherness in the neighbourhood.
The green space has long served as a recreational area for Lintang Nau residents, with the new benches adding another feature for park users.
