SUNWAY College Kuala Lumpur, Sunway College Johor Baru and Sunway International School Kuala Lumpur upheld their tradition of excellence at the May 2026 Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards.
Seventeen students earned 19 distinctions in the Cambridge International A Level, AS Level and Cambridge IGCSE examinations.
The students were recognised for their exceptional accomplishments, receiving prestigious accolades such as Top in Malaysia, Top in the World, Best Across Three, Best Across Four and High Achievement.
“Awards such as these are not simply markers of academic excellence, but early indicators of the kind of thinkers, innovators and leaders our students may become in the future,” said Sunway College Cambridge GCE A Level programme director Ruth Cheah.
Chew Lay Onn from Sunway College, who received two awards at the ceremony in November 2025, continued his streak of excellence by earning Top in Malaysia for A Level Chemistry as well as Best Across Three for A Level, placing first in Malaysia recently.
“Following my previous achievement, I have become more confident about my academic journey.
“My AS Level results provided a strong foundation for my final grades, allowing me to approach A2 in a more relaxed and less pressured environment.
“The experience gave me greater confidence in my abilities and reassurance about my future academic path,” he said.
Chew said that his fascination with understanding the fundamental rules of the universe drives his ambition to contribute to the advancement of modern physics. He hopes to pursue a career as a theoretical physicist.

“My A Levels were in the pre-artificial intelligence (AI) era, so when we had questions, we could not simply prompt an AI. We turned to our teachers, who were always there to guide and support us,” she said.
