A GROUP of Malaysians came together to champion the belief that mental health was not a personal struggle to be hidden, but a community responsibility to be embraced.

They took part in the Pause & Pace Fun Walk held at Taman Tasik Danau Kota, in Kuala Lumpur.

The walk was organised by Hong Leong Assurance (HLA) and Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA).

The event drew on a powerful idea that pacing ourselves is not a sign of weakness, but allowed us to go further, together, HLA said in a statement.

HLA group managing director and chief executive officer Loh Guat Lan reflected on the deeper purpose of the walk, saying: “We have always believed that strong minds build stronger lives.

“True resilience begins within. When we are mentally grounded, we are better equipped to care for our physical health and secure our financial futures.

“That peace of mind is what we want every Malaysian to experience.

“This initiative is a living expression of that belief because when we invest in the well-being of the individual, we create a ripple effect of strength that reaches far and wide.”

MMHA president Prof Datuk Dr Andrew Mohanraj said partnerships like this were essential to advancing mental health in Malaysia.

“For too long, mental health has been a conversation held in whispers.

“Collaborations like this can help change that.

“By weaving wellness into a community activity, we make support visible, accessible and normal.

“We want every Malaysian to know that you do not have to walk your journey alone. And today, quite literally, you did not.

HLA said partnering with MMHA deepened its commitment and belief that true protection encompassed every dimension of a person’s well-being – mental, physical and financial.

MMHA said the collaboration represented a growing movement to reframe mental health as mainstream conversation, one that belongs in boardrooms, community parks and at family dining tables.
