HUNDREDS turned up for a Wesak Day celebration in Pandan Indah, Selangor.
Devotees took part in an act of spiritual purification by pouring water over an infant statue of Gautama Buddha at the Taman Maju Jaya event.
Organised by Jing Xin Buddha Education Association, it was attended by prominent figures from MCA and Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, senior political advisor to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In his speech, Tengku Zafrul said Malaysians shared the same vision despite their diverse backgrounds.

“We may have different religions, but we all have the same hopes; to live in harmony with a better economy,” he said.
Tengku Zafrul, whom Anwar recently appointed to the role of monitoring officer for Pandan and Ampang parliamentary constituencies, also said that he would continue to work closely with Ampang Jaya Municipal Council and the assemblymen to ensure local concerns were addressed.
Former Pandan MP Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat, who had previously served as MCA president and Transport minister, expressed hope that Tengku Zafrul would visit the area frequently to solve community issues.

He also thanked the Jing Xin association for organising the event.
“The association has always been active in community programmes.
“We hope that spirit will continue,” he said.
Pandan MCA chairman Datuk Leong Kok Wee expressed hope for more infrastructure upgrades in the constituency.
He said the area had lagged behind in terms of physical developments despite its proximity to Kuala Lumpur.
“Any future MP in Pandan must be prepared to take care of the residents’ welfare,” he added.
Also present was Jing Xin Buddha Education Association president Ong Teik Soon.
