Petaling Jaya City Council’s (MBPJ) proposed rooftop solar installation project at four public facilities is still at the contractor evaluation and shortlisting stage.

Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohamad Zahri Samingon said no contractor has been officially appointed for the project involving the Petaling Jaya Community Library in Section 3, MBPJ Innovation Centre in Jalan Taman Sains Selangor, BU3 Community Hall in Bandar Utama and Kelana Jaya Sports Complex.

Mohamad Zahri said a technical evaluation meeting involving the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) and MBPJ’s Engineering Department was held on April 22 to assess documents and technical proposals submitted by participating companies.

He added that another technical meeting involving the Technical Standing Committee (TSU) and councillors was held on May 6 to shortlist companies for the next stage of consideration.

“As a result of the meeting, four companies have been shortlisted to make presentations during the Privatisation Committee meeting for further consideration and decisions regarding the appointment.”

Mohamad Zahri said the proposed implementation period for the project was between six and seven months, involving the first phase of installation works, testing and system handover.

“Physical installation works will not start until the council decides on the company to be appointed,” he told the media after a graduation ceremony for MBPJ Enforcement Squad 126 at the Dewan Sivik parking compound.

The programme involved 19 personnel who completed a four-month basic enforcement training.

Mohamad Zahri said the eight-year gap since the last programme in 2018 was due to recruitment cycles, as the training was only conducted when there were new intakes.

He said enforcement personnel would be reorganised according to operational needs in certain areas.

“We have several hotspots that require more personnel, while regular areas are handled by the usual enforcement teams.”
