POLITEKNIK Port Dickson held a programme aimed at creating awareness against incidents of bullying and sexual crimes among students and the public.
Introduced by Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF), it received support from Bukit Aman, Puspanita, National Anti-Drugs Agency and Negri Sembilan Health Department among others.
Hundreds of students participated in the event themed “Generasi Berani, Generasi Melindungi: Bebas Buli dan Jenayah Seksual”.
MCPF crime prevention club chairman Datuk Seri Johny Ch’ng Ewe Gee said, “With the advent of social media, society today is facing numerous challenges.
“Incidents of bullying, both physical and online, as well as sexual crimes, are rising.
“If left unchecked, it could lead to serious repercussions affecting the young.”
Ch’ng said some victims chose to suffer in silence as they were afraid or felt ashamed or that no one would believe them.
“That is why we are here to say that you are not alone and deserve to be protected.
“Prevention and creating more awareness are important to keep this in check.”
Ch’ng also said MCPF aimed to teach people about their rights, know the signs of danger and take the right action when facing threatening situations.
He urged victims and those who witnessed criminal acts to report it to the authorities.
MCPF vice-chairman Datuk Seri Dr King Lim Chin Fui reaffirmed the group’s commitment to anti-corruption efforts.
“Corruption is a serious white-collar crime that erodes the nation’s foundations,” said the former Negri Sembilan MCA chief.
“MCPF stands ready to work closely with the authorities in strengthening integrity.” — By SIMON KHOO
