State polls: Straight fight for Bagan Pinang between former Negri MB's son, PN candidate

PORT DICKSON: The battle for Bagan Pinang in Negri Sembilan will see a straight fight between the son of former Negri Sembilan mentri besar Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, Mohd Najib Mohd Isa, and Perikatan Nasional candidate Abdul Fatah Zakaria.

The Port Dickson Umno deputy chief, Mohd Najib, 44, arrived at the nomination centre at the Dewan Politeknik Port Dickson at 8.40am accompanied by Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan as well as Mohd Isa and other supporters.

Former Port Dickson PAS chairman Abdul Fatah arrived at 8.50am.

Bagan Pinang returning officer Dr Ishak Mohamad declared nominations closed at 10am with a straight fight between Abdul Fatah Zakaria as candidate number one and Mohd Najib Mohd Isa as candidate number two.

Earlier, the two candidates marched with their respective supporters to the nomination site, accompanied by more than 100 supporters of both parties in a peaceful situation without any untoward incident.

Even though it was raining heavily, the supporters did not disperse and continued to wait outside the nomination centre with umbrellas.

When asked, Mohd Najib said that he is confident due to Barisan's track record.

“I am confident that we have fought for the voters and enlightened them on state assembly matters. My manifesto is primarily based on collecting data and feedback from the people, ensuring that it aligns with their desires and needs," he said.

“I believe in manifesting something that the people truly want, focusing on grassroots initiatives," added Mohd Najib.

There are 36 state seats in Negri Sembilan up for grabs during polls in the state.
