THE Selangor State Legislative Assembly Office is seeking future leaders for its “ADN Muda Selangor” (Selangor Young Assemblymen) 2026 programme.
Youths are invited to join the competitive debate-style initiative to showcase their leadership potential and talent.
Selangor Speaker Lau Weng San said the programme was scheduled to take place from June 22 to 23.
“This programme is open to youths aged 18 to 35 years old.
“They can be from various academic backgrounds.
“Those involved in non-governmental organisations are also encouraged to apply.
“We are expecting a huge number of young professionals.
“Our aim is to let youths have the experience of coming to Wisma Dewan Negeri Selangor and participating in a real debate,” he said.
On the ideal candidate, Lau said the programme was looking for young people to provide views and ideas from a wider perspective.
From that process, it is hoped that new talents can be discovered and even be absorbed into the state government’s administration.
“We are looking for candidates who want to commit themselves to youth development and are willing to contribute to the state’s success story,” said Lau during a press conference held on the sidelines of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma Dewan Negeri Selangor, Shah Alam.
He spoke about one success story from the programme, Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim, who is now Kota Damansara assemblyman.
Muhammad Izuan had joined the programme when Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh was the then Selangor Speaker.
Also present at the press conference were Selangor Deputy Speaker Mohd Kamri Kamaruddin, Selangor Youth Council (MBS) president Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin, MBS international bureau and diplomatic network adviser Muhammad Syaril Showkat Ali and Selangor Mentri Besar office representative Mohammad Shahrul Nizam.
While acknowledging that Youth Societies and Youth Development Act 2007 (Act 668) has set the youth age limit at 30 years old effective Jan 1 this year, the ADN Muda Selangor 2026 organisers have retained the age limit of 35 years old for the young assemblymen programme.
This decision is intended to provide space for young professionals in the early stages of their careers to contribute perspectives that were more mature, substantive and technical during debate sessions.
This was also to ensure the quality of policy-making input at this simulation level remained at the highest standard.
Though priority would be given to constituency voters, the final selection of participants would be based on the quality of the proposed motions submitted.
Their level of understanding of the existing administrative and governmental system would be assessed through their responses to the questions in the application form.
Participants would be given the opportunity to vote on the motion topics submitted through the application form after being shortlisted.
The motions with the highest number of votes would be debated during the simulation session and at the climax of the Youth Assembly sitting (Sidang Dewan Muda).
The application link can be found on ADN Muda Selangor’s social media or via dewan.selangor.gov.my
Application deadline is May 25.
