SHAH ALAM: Youths keen to take part in the Selangor Youth Assembly Summit in July are invited to apply for the ADN Muda Selangor 2025 (Selangor Young Assemblyman) programme.

The initiative will enable youths to have the opportunity to learn what it is like to be an assemblyman and debate topics of interest to them.

Selangor State Assembly Speaker Lau Weng San announced that applications for the initiative are now open.

He was speaking at a press conference held at the Selangor State Assembly today (Feb 20) in Shah Alam.

“Selangor voters between the ages of 18 and 35 are invited to send their applications.

“The chosen 56 participants will get a chance to debate in the Selangor State Assembly Chamber during the Selangor Youth Assembly Summit.

“The best debater will be awarded the rotating trophy, the Selangor State Assembly Speaker’s Cup,” said Lau.

He said in 2024, this trophy was won by the ADN Muda participant representing N15 Taman Templer, Muhammad Amir Sahmat.

This year’s programme will feature a new format to allow more young people to experience the Selangor State Assembly sitting.

He said the first round will involve 112 participants, selected based on online applications, which will be open for two months starting today until April 20.

“The first round of selection is on June 14. The 56 participants who qualify for this stage will then proceed to a two-day-one-night programme on July 28 and 29 this year.

“This programme is open to students and youths. Priority will be given to registered voters in each constituency, but selection will still be based on the quality of written submissions.

“Applicants who upload videos on social media related to the initiative will also receive priority,” he said.

Participants in the ADN Muda Selangor programme will have the opportunity to propose and debate motions that impact the youths.

The eight key topics that youth participants would focus on are voting, economic empowerment, social media, climate change, education, development and sports, artificial intelligence (AI) and youth and cost of living.

“Participants will be grouped to propose motions related to the eight topics, and the two motions that receive the highest votes among participants will be brought to the summit session scheduled for July 29.

“This session will be chaired by myself as the Speaker and also by the Deputy Speaker,” said Lau.
