Johor invests RM123mil on district-level initiatives

Mohd Jafni says the meetings are important for local issues to be discussed comprehensively.

MORE than RM123mil has been allocated for development and rakyat-centric projects across several districts in Johor this year.

State housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said the allocations were approved through constituency action meetings (MTD).

The move, he said, reflected Johor government’s efforts to strengthen service delivery at the grassroots level.

The meetings were held in Tangkak, Kulai, Pontian and Johor Baru districts where issues in the constituencies were brought up for discussions and solutions.

Mohd Jafni said the meetings served as an important platform to ensure that local issues were not only discussed comprehensively but also coordinated between agencies and translated into clear action in line with the state’s Maju Johor 2030 agenda.

A total of 403 issues were recorded in Tangkak district involving the Tangkak, Serom, Gambir and Bukit Kepong constituencies, he said when contacted.

“Of that number, 67 issues have been resolved while 26 are being resolved with an allocation of about RM3.37mil.”

Mohd Jafni, who is also the Bukit Permas assemblyman, said another 84 issues were still being investigated, while 163 new applications worth more than RM18.1mil were being reviewed for approval.

He said 63 issues in the district had been classified as difficult to implement due to technical and policy constraints, involving an estimated RM3.5mil.

For Tangkak, he said RM7.3mil had been approved this year for 56 development and upgrading projects involving various agencies.

Of the amount, 25 priority projects worth RM2.5mil were approved immediately to address infrastructure repairs, public facilities, places of worship, and road safety, he elaborated.

Meanwhile, for Kulai, the executive councillor said RM72.58mil was approved for 61 projects involving the Johor Mentri Besar’s Office, Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) and Public Works Department (JKR).

Mohd Jafni said an additional RM1.07mil was approved for 11 emergency projects under MPKu, focusing on river strengthening works, drainage upgrades and repairs to public infrastructure.

“Two urgent projects costing RM1mil were approved immediately, including the replacement of an ageing bridge in Kampung Sri Muar and an upgrade to the junction at Kampung Rahmat,” he disclosed.

For Pontian, Mohd Jafni said RM12.78mil had been approved for 29 projects involving the constituencies of Benut, Pulai Sebatang, Kukup and Pekan Nenas.

Seven projects worth RM980,000 were identified for immediate implementation based on three main criteria – disaster mitigation, social needs and public safety.

These include repairs to a school affected by soil settlement, upgrades to a fishermen’s jetty in Kukup and improvements to ageing community facilities.

As for Johor Baru district, Mohd Jafni said RM31.06mil had been approved for 77 projects involving Johor Baru City Council (MBJB), Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) and Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG).

He said 288 issues were discussed, with 79 resolved and 92 currently being implemented.

Another 10 projects were identified for immediate approval to address pressing concerns involving drainage, road safety and community facilities.

Mohd Jafni said the state government would continue adopting a whole-of-government approach to ensure every approved project was monitored closely until completion.

He added that Johor government remained committed to translating economic growth into better living standards and improved local infrastructure.
