KULAI: Gerakan hopes to contest seven seats in the upcoming Johor state election, says Datuk Dr Dominic Lau.
The party president said the party aimed to only contest seats where it had a good chance of winning.
"Whether we will contest all seven seats that have been proposed is still to be confirmed.
"This is what has been proposed, and there may still be changes.
"We do not want to contest just for the sake of contesting. We want to win," he said.
Meanwhile, Johor Gerakan chief Datuk Teo Kok Chee said the party's state leadership has submitted its suggestions on the seats to be contested in the upcoming polls.
"Among the seats we have suggested are Bukit Batu, Perling, Penggaram and Puteri Wangsa," he said.
Caretaker Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the dissolution of the Johor state legislative assembly on June 1, paving the way for the state's 16th election.
On Friday (June 12), the Election Commission set July 11 as polling day for the Johor state election, with June 27 as nomination day and July 7 for early voting.
Johor last held a state election on March 12, 2022, when Barisan Nasional secured a two-thirds majority after winning 40 of the 56 seats.
Pakatan Harapan won 12 seats, Perikatan Nasional secured three, while Muda won one.
In the previous state poll, Gerakan contested eight seats — Bertam, Yong Peng, Puteri Wangsa, Johor Jaya, Stulang, Perling, Bukit Batu and Pekan Nenas — under the Perikatan ticket.
