KULAI: Gerakan hopes all Perikatan Nasional component parties will remain united in facing the upcoming Johor and Negri Sembilan state polls, says party president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau.
Lau said the party would try its best to ensure all Perikatan parties remain in the coalition before making any further decisions.
"The best-case scenario is for all component parties within Perikatan to remain united and continue working together to face the Johor and Negri Sembilan state elections.
"We will try our best, but if we are unable to achieve the first scenario, then we have to move on to the second scenario.
"That means we need to choose whichever alliance can help secure victory for Perikatan and Gerakan," he said at a press conference after launching the party's Johor election command centre here.
Lau said this when asked to comment on Gerakan's stand amid the split between PAS and Bersatu.
Asked when the party would announce its decision, he said it would depend on political developments in the days to come.
"If we are unable to get the desired best-case scenario, then we will need to turn to the second scenario, which is to be with PAS, and the third scenario is to be with Bersatu.
"We cannot announce our decision yet because there are still developments taking place.
"PAS is expected to make a major announcement on Wednesday (June 17) regarding whether it will contest in the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.
"There are still many factors at play. We can say that our selection or decision will depend on the changes taking place in the current political landscape.
"The time has not come yet. When the time comes, we will announce our decision," he said.
On June 8, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang announced that the party had decided to terminate its political cooperation with Bersatu.
On Saturday (June 13), former opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin officially launched Parti Wawasan Negara.
The new party was launched during the Reset Convention, which was also attended by Lau and Abdul Hadi.
Hamzah, who is also the former Bersatu deputy president, started Reset shortly after he was sacked from the party in February.
