Court greenlights Highland Towers blocks demolition by year-end

THE AMPANG Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) plans to demolish the remaining two Highland Towers blocks this year after a court ruling cleared a long-standing legal hurdle.

MPAJ deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari said the Ampang Magistrate’s Court granted the council permission to proceed with removing the nuisance posed by the abandoned structures.

The decision provides a clearer legal pathway to take action without creating further legal complications.

Hasrolnizam said the council would expedite the process. However, the exact demolition method has yet to be determined and remains subject to a technical review.

He said MPAJ was coordinating the next steps with parties linked to the site, including those representing land ownership interests, insolvency matters and units owned by the developer.

The council would hold a briefing for these stakeholders before final demolition plans were submitted through the formal approval process, he said.

Hasrolnizam was speaking at the Ampang Jaya Car-Free Day event at Laman Rekreasi Tasik Tambahan in Ampang.
