ARMY veterans and retired police personnel without pensions have until Aug 31 to claim their RM200 "Jom Shopping" vouchers from the Selangor government.
State human resources and poverty eradication committee chairman V. Papparaidu said many eligible recipients had yet to apply for the vouchers.
"Applications can be made at the service centres of their respective assemblymen.
"The vouchers can be used at selected supermarkets, but not for the purchase of tobacco or alcoholic products.
"The full list of participating outlets is available at the assemblymen's service centres," he said at a press conference on the sidelines of the Selangor State Assembly sitting at Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor, Shah Alam, today (Aug 7).
Papparaidu said more than 8,000 people had been identified as eligible for the initiative, but the authorities faced challenges reaching some of them because of outdated contact information.
"Some have also moved out of Selangor, which has further complicated the process," he added.
The vouchers were launched last week by Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari in conjunction with Hari Pahlawan.
The state government, Amirudin said, had allocated RM1.7mil for the initiative, which was expected to benefit about 8,300 army veterans and retired police personnel without pensions.
