OVER 200 global participants took part in a summit in Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with World Green Movement Day.

Jointly organised by Tsinghua University’s Centre for Public History and Malaysia Ecological Civilisation Communication Centre (MECCC), World Green Movement Summit 2026 featured a diverse range of subjects.

Part of the focus, according to a media release by MECCC, was the transition of individuals to “green citizens” and a World Green Movement app designed to track environmental, social and governance (ESG) indicators.

Also discussed was the streamlining of Ecological Civilisation School certification issued under MECCC, which was established locally in 2019 to promote environmental protection and the concept of ecological civilisation.

Among the speakers were Universiti Malaya agroforestry expert Dr Lau Su Ee and environmental history expert Dr Mao Da, while the series of topics included waste-to-energy technology, food waste solutions, herbal philosophy, community sustainability and creative upcycling.

Also present were World Green Movement 321 founder Dr Lee Tuck Wah, educators, corporate sector representatives, entrepreneurs and students from Dong Bei Bei Taiji Martial Arts Academy in Kuala Lumpur.

According to the media release, World Green Movement has received backing from global environmentalist Matthias Gelber, also known as “The Greenman”, and Universiti Putra Malaysia’s Prof Dr H’ng Paik San.

Meanwhile, movement working committee head Chin Tai Ying announced that a virtual forum would be held on the 21st of every month as a permanent think-tank for sharing green initiatives and academic research.
