Yeoh: No licences for KLCC photographers

PUTRAJAYA: Authorities have ruled out issuing licences to photographers operating in the vicinity of PETRONAS Twin Towers in Jalan Ampang due to safety concerns.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said the decision was made after taking into account traffic conditions and crowd density in the area.

“I have visited the site twice with Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Fadhlun Mak Ujud and we found that it is unsafe for photography activities,” she said here today (April 6).

Yeoh said she had asked KLCC Property Holdings Bhd and the police for help in dealing with photography touts there as some are believed to be foreigners.

In addition to having CCTV cameras installed in the area, she said regular announcements were also made to warn tourists against engaging with the touts.

“Announcements are made every 10 minutes in five languages to inform passers-by that the service is illegal.”

She added that several arrests had been made, with enforcement efforts set to be intensified and expanded to other hotspots across Kuala Lumpur.

It was reported that 18 men, believed to be involved in touting activities, were arrested after allegedly attacking two men vat Persiaran KLCC.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Sazalee Adam said action was taken under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting while armed with a deadly weapon.

Yeoh was speaking to reporters after launching a language programme offering English, Arabic, Mandarin and Korean classes for children aged seven and above.

Costing RM40,000, the initiative by Putrajaya Corporation is fully sponsored by Carsome as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts.
