Catholics mark Palm Sunday

Reverend Fr. Gregory Chan, the parish priest of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Klang presides over the Palm Sunday mass.

KLANG: Churches across the country marked Palm Sunday as Christians ushered in Holy Week, with the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes (OLL) here also observing the occasion.

Churchgoers gathered outside Wisma Lourdes for the traditional blessing of palms before joining a short procession into the church at 8am on Sunday (March 29).

Reverend Fr. Gregory Chan, the parish priest, blessed the palms while Fr. Simon Agbo from Nigeria assisted.

Palm Sunday holds special importance in the Christian calendar, signalling the beginning of Holy Week, which culminates in Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

The day commemorates the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, where he was welcomed as the Messiah.

This year, Maundy Thursday (commemorates the last supper) falls on April 2, followed by Good Friday (marks the crucifixion of Jesus) on April 3, while Easter (celebrates the resurrection of Jesus) will take place on Sunday, April 5.
