The inaugural WTGL season will get underway on Sunday at 3pm USA EST, with Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC), led by Michelle Wie West, taking on a Lydia Ko-powered New York Golf Club (NYGC) in a landmark opening contest at the award winning SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
The new women's team golf league, created by TMRW Sports in partnership with the LPGA, boasts a star-studded line-up featuring World Golf Hall of Fame members, Olympians, major champions, established legends and emerging talents.
Thailand's World No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul and China’s World No. 5 Yin Ruoning will make their debuts for Motor City Golf Club on Tuesday 8pm USA EST, where they will face LAGC, which also has Japan’s Aki Iwai on its roster.
“I’m very excited to be part of the inaugural season of WTGL. The team format, fast pace and technology can introduce golf to a new generation of fans while giving them a fresh way to see our personalities,” said Jeeno, an 11-time LPGA Tour winner.
Yin, a major champion, added: “WTGL is a great opportunity for me and for women’s golf. I have always enjoyed team competition, and this format will give us a fun way to showcase our games and personalities while introducing new fans to the sport.”
Each team has a five-player roster, and three players from each team will compete in every match, placing a premium on strategy and lineup selection.
WTGL features five teams competing in a round-robin regular season, with every match carrying implications for the postseason. The campaign will culminate in the Playoffs, comprising single-elimination Semifinals followed by a best-of-three Finals.
