Company shares 42nd anniversary joy with 95 beneficiaries, contributing RM30,000 to SMG’s ePaper programme for students
CONTRIBUTIONS in cash and kind worth RM1,168,800 were given out to 95 organisations as part of a consumer goods distributor’s commitment to the community.
Thong Thye Siang Sdn Bhd in Klang, Selangor, organised the event in conjunction with its 42nd anniversary, continuing its long-running practice of giving back to the community.
Recipients included hospitals, Chinese schools, welfare homes, animal protection groups and community-based associations.
Star Media Group (SMG) received RM30,000 for its ePaper Student Sponsorship Programme which provides schools and students access to The Star to support English language learning and general knowledge.
The contributions were presented during Thong Thye Siang’s annual dinner which brought together staff, principals, dealers, customers and business partners.
Employees were also honoured for their long service and previous year’s performance.
Thong Thye Siang managing director Tricia Lim said the annual dinner reflected the company’s values and its approach to giving back.
“Each year, we assess causes based on long-term impact, transparency and the ability to create meaningful change at grassroots level.
“Education and community welfare have always been close to our hearts because they create a multiplier effect.
“When you empower individuals and families, the benefits extend well beyond a single generation,” she said.Tricia said Thong Thye Siang’s partnership with Star Media Group reflected common goals in contributing to society.
“Beyond being a trusted media organisation, SMG has consistently demonstrated credibility, professionalism and genuine dedication to social causes.
“We value partners who share our belief that businesses have a responsibility to contribute positively to society, and SMG has been a partner in helping us extend the reach and impact of our charitable initiatives.
“SMG’s initiative focuses on strengthening English proficiency as a foundation for confidence and leadership.
“In our organisation, we have seen capable individuals whose growth was limited not by ability, but by language confidence.
“Communication skills, particularly in English, are essential for career progression and effective leadership.
“By supporting this initiative, our hope is to help nurture more confident, capable young leaders who can contribute meaningfully to their organisations and to our nation,” Tricia added.
