RM600mil collection in first two months points to strong year-end outlook, says Johor MB

JOHOR could potentially surpass its projected 2026 revenue and collect more than RM3bil this year based on its performance in the first two months, says Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

He said the state recorded revenue of about RM600mil in January and February.

“If this trajectory is maintained, we will be able to achieve revenue of more than RM3bil by December this year,” he said during a buka puasa event with Kelab Media Johor at his official residence in Johor Baru.

Onn Hafiz said Johor had initially projected revenue of about RM2bil last year, but eventually collected RM2.6bil.

“It is not impossible for Johor to surpass expectations this year, although the revenue projection for 2026 is about RM2.7bil.”

He added that higher revenue would allow the state to channel more funds to residents.

On another matter, Onn Hafiz called for unity among Johor’s diverse communities, saying Malays, Chinese, Indians and Orang Asli must continue to stand together to strengthen the state’s social fabric and ensure continued progress.

He said he had studied how Singapore attracted investors from around the world and found that stability was one of the main reasons.

“Without stability, no matter how low the cost of doing business or how attractive the incentives are, investors will not come.”

He stressed that the need for stability also applied within Johor, where misinformation and false claims could undermine public trust.

He said many accusations and slanderous statements were being spread, especially over the recent water shortages in Simpang Renggam and Benut.

He emphasised the importance of countering misinformation with facts.

“These water shortages were not due to the development of data centres.

“There are no data centres located in these areas.

“I urge media practitioners to uphold honest and responsible reporting because sensational or misleading coverage can divide the people of Johor.

“What we need is fact-based journalism that strengthens unity and trust,” he added.

Onn Hafiz also urged the public to remain vigilant for online scams misusing the “Kasih Johor” branding to prey on vulnerable communities.
