Sunway Carnival Mall showcases contemporary tapestry of tradition
THIS festive season, Sunway Carnival Mall invites shoppers to celebrate Seindah Corak Aidilfitri, a contemporary interpretation of Malay textile heritage, taking place from now until March 29. With the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan, Malaysians are gently reminded that the joyous celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri is just around the corner. A season rooted in togetherness, reflection and the beauty of shared traditions. From the warmth of returning home to the simple joy of gathering with loved ones, Raya is a time when bonds are renewed and stories are passed lovingly across generations.
Inspired by the artistry of songket, tenun, batik and tekat, Seindah Corak Aidilfitri weaves cultural craftsmanship with modern illustration to create an immersive festive landscape that is expressive and meaningful. Flowing patterns, symbolic motifs and vibrant hues transform the mall environment into a shared Raya experience rooted in culture and connection, inviting shoppers to experience tradition through movement, interaction and shared celebration.

Sunway Carnival Mall senior general manager Chai Wen Yew said, “Hari Raya is about coming home; to our families, our values and the traditions that shape who we are”.
“A Story in Every Motif” is a captivating collaboration between Sunway Malls and Sunway University, presented as part of the Seindah Corak Aidilfitri Raya campaign,” he shared.
Chai added: “Initiated as a research-creation project and led by multi-award-winning senior lecturers Delas Santano and Maslisa Zainuddin, the initiative invites shoppers to uncover the rich heritage of traditional Malay textiles through an immersive Augmented Reality (AR) experience.”
He explained, “Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 4, 11 and 17), the project brings the hidden poetry behind each motif to life — transforming the festive shopping journey into a meaningful encounter with culture, knowledge and living heritage.”
Adding depth and authenticity to the celebration is the collaboration with renowned batik artisans Tipah Jusoh and Darus Idris, a husband-and-wife duo from Kelantan with over two decades of experience in batik craftsmanship.
Drawing from their East Coast heritage, their works blend traditional Kelantanese motifs with contemporary sensibilities, resulting in textiles that are both culturally rich and visually refined. Their artistry brings soul to Seindah Corak Aidilfitri, allowing shoppers at Sunway Carnival Mall to experience batik not just as decor, but as a living art form.
Designed as a multi-sensory experience, the Seindah Corak Aidilfitri invites shoppers to explore the space at their own pace, offering moments for discovery, photo opportunities and subtle surprises across different zones throughout the mall.
Additionally, don’t miss Agrofiesta Aidilfitri, a special collaboration with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Agency (Fama). The event takes place until March 20 on the ground floor of the mall and features 22 booths offering a wide array of festive goodies, including traditional cookies, local delicacies, festive wear, accessories and more, ensuring you have everything you need for a perfect Raya celebration.

From now until March 15, visitors can enjoy a variety of cultural activities at the South Atrium, including Malay instrumental performances, Malay traditional dance, Wayang Kulit, Boria and Raya Dance (Bamboo) performances held between 3pm and 5.30pm on selected weekends. In addition, Canvas Batik Painting sessions will take place at 4pm on selected Saturdays and Sundays, offering participants a hands-on experience with traditional Malay art.
Shoppers can enjoy a range of Indahnya Redemptions from Feb 27 onwards by spending a minimum amount in two same-day receipts to redeem exclusive items such as Sampul Raya, vouchers, rice and a Seindah Corak Batik Bag, while stocks last. On March 14 and 15, shoppers who spend RM2,388 (RM2,288 for UOB cardmembers) can redeem a limited SK Jewellery Gold Bar, and until April 5, they can also earn up to 20 times Sunway Points through the Sunway Super App at participating merchants. Redemptions can be made at the Concierge on the second floor while stocks last, and terms and conditions apply.
This Raya, gather with loved ones at the mall and be part of a celebration where tradition, creativity and togetherness are beautifully woven into every moment.
