A REUNION for 21 former La Salle School classmates after decades apart was made sweeter by meeting Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

The Old LaSallians were gathered for their 63rd birthday at a restaurant in Chulia Street, George Town.

In the midst of laughter over shared memories, the men − clad in t-shirts made to commemorate their bond − were approached by fellow diner Chow, who obliged their request for a photograph.

On the reunion, Kenny Wong said the classmates met at La Salle School in 1970 at age seven, before going separate ways at 16 due to the lack of upper secondary classes to accommodate them.

He said many lost contact completely.

“We built our careers, got married, raised our children and later our grandchildren too.

“But then came social media and that proved to be the turning point that would reunite us,” he said.

In a joint statement, the men expressed gratitude at the opportunity to reconnect, adding that another reunion was in the works.

“We’re proud to have been LaSallians,” they shared.

“Even prouder that we’ve stayed connected and continue making the effort to meet.”
