RM200 vouchers from S’gor govt scheme distributed to 850 recipients at CNY open house
Some 850 Bandar Baru Klang senior citizens over 60 received Jom Shopping vouchers under Selangor government’s Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) programme in conjunction with Chinese New Year.
Bandar Baru Klang assemblyman Dr Quah Perng Fei handed out these SMUE vouchers worth RM200 each, during an open house at his service centre off Jalan Meru in Klang.
Voucher recipients had applied for aid at his centre.
“Citizens aged 60 and above who have lived in Selangor for at least 15 years, as well as registered voters in the state with a household income of RM3,000 and below, are eligible,” he said.
SMUE vouchers can only be claimed once a year and are for use at designated stores.
Dr Quah hoped that the aid helped seniors have a more joyful Chinese New Year.
The SMUE scheme is aimed at assisting low-income individuals in all 56 Selangor constituencies, where an estimated 25,000 vouchers were distributed for Chinese New Year.
About 2,000 people attended the open house where street food such as curry noodles, popiah, asam laksa, cendol, ais kacang and satay were served.
Also present were Selangor local government and tourism committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim and former Selangor state executive councillor Datuk Teng Chang Khim.
Guests were entertained with a lion dance performance, Chinese face changing (Bian Lian) show as well as an orchestra performance by the SM Kwang Hua Chinese Orchestra and Huang Cheng Musical team.
