THE annual Putrajaya Open Day (POD) 2026 kicked off with a gentle trumpeting of excitement, courtesy of two female elephants.

The gentle giants from the Kuala Gandah Elephant Conservation Centre in Pahang stole the spotlight and were cared for in a special area at the Putrajaya Wetlands for the duration of the event.

They were accompanied by their handlers and a lorry load of their favourite sugar cane.

Beyond the pachyderms, visitors enjoyed a nostalgic nod to the past with a classic bicycle meet, which even featured a penny farthing.

Riders added a playful twist by cosplaying as public service workers from the 1950s to 1970s, bringing history to life.

The event, held in conjunction with Federal Territories Day, brought together government agencies, private companies and community groups under one roof in Precinct 3.

There were exhibitions, interactive zones, performances, presentations and stalls.
