EFFECTIVE today (Feb 9), the public can obtain information on planned development projects in Kuala Lumpur through the One Stop Centre (OSC) portal.

The portal also allows users to check whether development proposals have received approval from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said the initiative is aimed at enhancing public confidence in urban planning in the capital.

“This approach to open data access has long been practised in developed countries, where information is treated as a public right.

“This reform has long been championed by MPs and civil society groups, and it has finally been realised,” she said.

Yeoh was speaking at a press briefing on Monday (Feb 9) at DBKL headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut with Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Fadhlun Mak Ujud and Federal Territories Department director-general Datuk Muhammad Azmi Mohd Zain.

To safeguard sensitive information belonging to landowners and developers, she said only non-confidential details would be made available on the portal.

Yeoh added that MPs and the public were previously often unaware of planned developments near their neighbourhoods.

“Often tines, MPs had to write to DBKL for further details following public outcry, which was both time-consuming and ineffective.

“This latest move is intended to keep the public better informed and allow communities and MPs to provide feedback to DBKL earlier,” she said.

The announcement is yet another effort by the ministry and DBKL to improve transparency and public participation in urban planning and management.

Last month, DBKL moved to require developers to obtain input from MPs prior to submitting their proposals for consideration and approval to the City Hall.
