Pet-related issues in high-rises mainly JMBs’ responsibility, says PJ mayor

E ORCEMENT of pet-related issues within stratified developments fall primarily under the responsibility of joint management bodies (JMBs).

Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohamad Zahri Samingon (pic) said that for matters involving pets within residential high-rises, the JMB should take action first, as it concerns their respective properties.

“At the local authority level, Petaling Jaya City Council’s (MBPJ) role is limited to issuing regulations while enforcement in the building is carried out by management bodies.

“MBPJ has not received any official complaints on the issue.”

He added that the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) had also issued guidelines on the matter.

Mohamad Zahri was speaking at a press conference after the MBPJ full board meeting at its headquarters in Jalan Yong Shook Lin.

During the meeting, the mayor said all applications for the sale of fireworks and firecrackers in Petaling Jaya must obtain prior approval from the police.

He said applications would need to go through the police for clearance and consideration, before being forwarded to MBPJ for online processing and the issuance of temporary permits.

He said discussions were held with Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Shamsudin Mamat and his team earlier this month to set guidelines for such sale.

“As of now, the city council has received 32 applications for the sale of fireworks and firecrackers in Petaling Jaya,” he said.

He added that the applications involved locations in SS20, PJU11 and Section 1.

For the Chinese New Year period, sales at approved sites would be allowed from Feb 10 to March 3, said Mohamad Zahri.

“The closing date for applications is Feb 3,” he added.

For Hari Raya Aidilfitri, sales would be permitted from March 5 to 27, he said.

“Permit applications will close on Feb 26,” he added.
