THE number of vehicle owners using parking app Parkmax@Johor within Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) jurisdiction has grown steadily.

Iskandar Puteri mayor Hasrin Kamal Hashim said 74,852 users with 83,777 vehicles were recorded to have used the app in 2024 since it was introduced on July 1 of that year.

In 2025, he said the number of new users rose to 95,538 with 130,223 vehicles.

“Overall, the total increase was almost 100% after implementation of Parkmax@Johor,” Hasrin told StarMetro.

Many motorists, he said, welcomed the convenience of easier and faster digital payments.

Hasrin said prior to implementation of the digitalised parking payment in Iskandar Puteri, users obtained their parking coupons from outlets such as sundry and stationery shops.

He said from July 1 to Dec 31, 2024, a total 103,838 compounds amounting to RM3.24mil were issued to motorists.

“For first 10 months of last year, 220,558 compounds were served to vehicle owners worth RM6.91mil,” said Hasrin, adding that there was a slight increase in the number of users settling their parking compounds last year.

He also highlighted the overlap between Parkmax@Johor and MBJB Spot app for areas under Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) jurisdiction.

“Some users are still confused with the apps, especially in border areas,” said Hasrin.

He said this was because the MBJB Spot app could still be used in several locations within MBIP.

Hasrin also said he expected the number of parking bays under MBIP to increase in the future as there were open-air carparks in commercial areas that had yet to be handed over to the city council.

“Presently, there are 32,205 carparks at 227 roads within Iskandar Puteri.”

Hasrin said several residential areas and roads with 8,000 parking bays have been gazetted but there had been no enforcement due to unfinished maintenance work.

He said amendments were made to the MBIP Road Traffic (Parking Allocation) Order to gazette new housing areas and roads.

He estimated a sizeable number of additional parking bays from these developments.
