MBIP rolls out safe city initiative

THREE key areas in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, have been identified for the “Johor Selamat 2.0” initiative, part of efforts to strengthen safety and security.

Gelang Patah, Eco Botanic/Eco Galleria and EduCity were selected by Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) for the initial rollout of the safe city initiative.

Iskandar Puteri mayor Hasrin Kamal Hashim said MBIP played a key role in the programme by deploying AI-powered CCTV cameras, upgrading services and fostering a smart city environment.

“We already have 500 AI CCTV units and 10 panic buttons in operation.

“In addition, 25 body cameras have been issued to enforcement personnel to ensure accountability, transparency and proper documentation of incidents,” he said after the full council meeting at Menara MBIP in Medini Sentral.

He added that the safe city initiative would be expanded to other areas based on evaluations by the initiative’s committee.

Hasrin Kamal said the Iskandar Puteri Command Centre (IPCC) served as the control centre to mobilise emergency assistance within its areas.

He hoped that the efforts would contribute to a reduction in crime rates in Johor, particularly in Iskandar Puteri.

On another matter, Hasrin Kamal said MBIP’s continued commitment to sustainable development was recognised when the city council received the Diamond Recognition at the Low-Carbon City Awards 2025.

The award, organised by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry through the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation, was presented at a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur last month.

Hasrin Kamal said the recognition was for MBIP’s efforts in reducing carbon emissions at the Sunway City Iskandar Puteri Low-Carbon Zone and the MBIP Taman Impian Emas vehicle storage building.

“The recognition reflects the effectiveness of strategic collaboration between MBIP and our development partners in accelerating the transformation of Iskandar Puteri into a greener, more resilient and sustainable city,” he said.
