TO enhance digital teaching and learning in schools, the Rotary Club of Temerloh contributed 42 smart boards to two schools in Pahang.
The two schools are SMJK Hwa Lian in Mentakab and Chung Hwa High School in Kuantan.
Club vice-president Datuk Hiang A Li said the Rotary Foundation Global Grant project aimed to help teachers use technology effectively to create more engaging classrooms.
“These smart boards can also help enhance students’ learning experiences and prepare them for the digital and artificial intelligence (AI) era.
“The global grant project is valued at USD80,300 (about RM324,121),” he said after the presentation ceremony in Mentakab.
Hiang said the original plan was to provide 20 smart boards to each school.
“However, the club contributed an additional two units to Chung Hwa High School, bringing the total to 42 units.
“This project received strong support from the Rotary Foundation, as well as Rotary Clubs from Taiwan, India, South Korea, the Philippines and 12 participating Rotary clubs in Malaysia.
“All of us worked together closely to promote the digitalisation of education.
“We focus not only on providing smart boards and multimedia teaching equipment but also on training teachers to effectively master and utilise the equipment, thereby improving the quality of classroom teaching and students’ learning experiences,” he said.
Hiang added that technology is merely a tool and that the true power of education still came from teachers.
Therefore, he urged teachers to make full use of the smart boards, explore new teaching methods and help students to better understand digital technology in the AI era.
The smart boards would help teachers integrate visual presentations, animations, simulations and other digital resources into classroom lessons, making teaching more interactive, creative and lively, he added.
Hiang said the project was not just about purchasing equipment but investing in the future of the younger generation.
He also hoped that all parties would continue working together to support quality education and strengthen community development.
Others present were SMJK Hwa Lian board of directors vice chairman Yap Yee Chang, board secretary Hew Kok Kin, board members Tang Chun Keong and Yap Soo Koon and the school Parent-Teacher Association chairman Jeff Sam.
Also in attendance were Rotary Club of Temerloh president-elect Gan Chee Yong, immediate past president Soh Chia Yeong, Rotary Foundation chairman Chua See Yin, past assistant governor Chua Say Hand and past district governors Teoh Kwan Swee (district 3300) and Chen Chin Jung (district 3502 from Taiwan).
