A simple blood test is all it takes for detection.
A community health initiative offering 300 free prostate‑specific antigen (PSA) screenings to the public has been launched.
The programme by Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur runs until Dec 31 or while allocations last.
In a statement, the hospital said prostate conditions continue to rise in Malaysia, and many men often delayed seeking treatment because they assumed urinary symptoms were “normal with age”.
Conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia can significantly affect one’s quality of life if left unmanaged, often worsening over time.
Studies show that lower urinary tract symptoms like frequent night‑time urination, weak urine flow, increased frequency and urgency are common with among up to 41% of men over the age of 40.
Prostate cancer remains the third most common cancer among Malaysian men, with one in 117 having a lifetime risk of being diagnosed with it.
PSA screening is especially recommended for men aged 40 and above, those with urinary symptoms, individuals with a family history of prostate or breast cancer, and anyone who prefers an annual prostate health check.
The screening is a simple blood test available at Level 2, Premier Integrated Lab.
Individuals found to have an elevated PSA result would also receive a first consultation with a urologist at no cost, ensuring timely medical guidance.
No appointment is required. For details, call 011‑5122 4125.
