PICKLEBALL doubles players, Tiong Khai Hieng and Yong Yu Ying, rose to top spot in the Saberkas Bukit Assek Pickleball Tournament 2025 in Sibu, leaving 15 teams in the dust.

They beat Hu Ung Khang and Law Luo Lin in the final match, while third place was won by Pau Chiong Shii and Febi Ngu.

In his speech at the opening, Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Bukit Assek branch chairman and Sibu Pickleball Association (SPA) president Joseph Chieng highlighted the importance of youth involvement in community activities.

“Saberkas Bukit Assek always places youth engagement, healthy living and community cohesion at the heart of its mission.

“Pickleball is a sport that embodies these values.

“It is suitable for all ages, easy to learn and promotes teamwork, focus and physical fitness.”

Chieng said the tournament was a chance to forge friendships and learn from one another.

He emphasised the organisation’s commitment to expanding youth membership and strengthening leadership development while providing young people with opportunities for growth through sports.

Organising chairman Pau Chiong Shii said this second competition by Saberkas enabled the community to stay active and enjoy friendly competition.

“Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world and bringing it to our local community reflects our commitment to promoting youth development.”

Also present at the tournament held at the Methodist Youth Centre were Saberkas secretary-general Kiing Teck Ho and SPA vice-chairman Daniel Ling. — By ANDY CHUA
