EFFECTIVE Nov 1, hundreds of morning and night market traders operating in Ampang Jaya municipality will enjoy some relief from their daily operating costs.
Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) announced a reduction in the daily management fee, lowering the charge from the recently proposed RM7 to RM6 per day of operation.
This revision marks the first fee change in 18 years.
The fee was previously RM4.
Speaking at the full board meeting, MPAJ deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari said the decision to reduce the fee was made following requests from traders associations.
“A meeting was held with local councillors to discuss the issue, and we agreed to reduce the rate,” he said.
To ensure transparency and fairness, Hasrolnizam said the management fee, which was for cleansing and maintenance services, would be collected daily instead of weekly or monthly.
He also reminded the business community about the upcoming 2026 licence renewal deadline.
Micro entrepreneurs and business owners have until Dec 31 to renew their licences.
The municipality is home to an estimated 3,000 micro-entrepreneurs and 11,000 licensed businesses in total.
“As of Oct 16, 317 businesses renewed their licence, resulting in RM315,000 in revenue for MPAJ,” said Hasrolnizam.
Licence renewal applications can be submitted at the MPAJ headquarters in Pandan Indah between 8am and 5pm on weekdays.
Businesses that fail to renew their licence before the deadline, face a RM360 penalty.
Hasrolnizam said MPAJ had stepped up enforcement against businesses found hiring foreigners without permits.
He said enforcement operations were carried out in Pandan Mewah and Tasek Tambahan, targeting sundry shops and carwash premises.
