Traffic dispersal project between Juru and Sungai Dua toll plazas begins

THE traffic dispersal project between the Juru and Sungai Dua toll plazas (PTJSD) in Penang has started on Tuesday (Oct 21).

According to PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS), work on Package One of the project has commenced with Naza Engineering & Construction Sdn Bhd appointed as the main contractor after an open tender process.

"Package One involves upgrading works at the East-West Interchange roundabout (KM135.15-KM135.4) and the construction of a new flyover along Jalan Tun Hussein Onn (KM133.5-KM134.5).

"The works are expected to take 24 months to complete," it said in a statement on Tuesday.

PLUS said the project aims to ease congestion between Juru and Sungai Dua and improve traffic flow for both highway users and nearby residents.

"The overall PTJSD project is a high-impact initiative that will benefit about 200,000 daily users by reducing congestion along the affected stretch," PLUS added.

During the initial stage, the company gave its assurance that preliminary works will not disrupt traffic, as the existing two lanes in both directions will remain open to motorists.

PLUS said it would continue to provide regular updates on the project’s progress through its social media channels.
