Selangor government, through the state entrepreneurship and creative economy committee, is organising Selangor Craft Competition: Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Cup 2026.
The contest themed “Heritage. Identity. Innovation” seeks to spur new designs, encourage product innovation and boost Batik Selangor’s commercial value, while preserving the authenticity of traditional batik craftsmanship and the state’s cultural heritage.
Batik Selangor, featuring the motif of state flower bunga tanjung (Mimusops elengi or Spanish cherry), was launched in 2022.
“In line with the state government’s aspirations, the competition strives to popularise Batik Selangor and make it part of everyday life.
“It should not be limited to official functions or exclusive attire,” Selangor youth, sports and entrepreneurship committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi said in a statement.
“This initiative is expected to cultivate pride in the state’s heritage and strengthen cultural identity among Selangor’s diverse communities,” he added.
The competition features two categories, namely fashion (deadline for entries is Sept 2) and art (deadline is on Oct 26), with total prizes exceeding RM90,000.
Speaking at the competition launch in Bandar Sunway, Mohd Najwan said the event supported Selangor’s creative economy development agenda.
He said the fashion and textile sectors have the potential to create job opportunities, nurture creative entrepreneurs and strengthen Selangor’s position as a creative economy hub.
“We are confident Batik Selangor can grow into an internationally recognised creative brand that brings recognition to Selangor and Malaysia,” he said.
