GEORGE TOWN: The Juru–Sungai Dua Toll Plaza Traffic Dispersal Project is expected to be operational by the end of 2027, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

In a statement on Thursday (April 16), he said the Malaysian Highway Authority had informed him that physical works for the first phase, which began in October last year (2025), are currently ahead of schedule.

"The implementation of the project will continue in phases, involving Package 2 to Package 5 to complete the entire alignment from the Juru Toll Plaza to Sungai Dua.

"All of these packages are expected to commence physical works in the third quarter of this year (2026), subject to the project's technical scope details being finalised," he said.

Chow said the project is targeted for completion by the end of 2030.

Chow said the project addresses the issues of traffic congestion on the North-South Expressway in the state.
