20km of pipes in Tmn Bukit Maluri to be replaced

Pipe replacement works by Air Selangor have begun in Lorong Burung Sintar 1, Taman Bukit Maluri.

SOME 20km of pipes in Taman Bukit Maluri, Kuala Lumpur, will be replaced by Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd.

Air Selangor planning and capital works department head Ainul Azhar Mohd Jemoner said the project would be carried out in three phases, with contracts for the first two phases already awarded.

“Works for phase 1 are expected to start on Oct 15, depending on whether we can obtain a permit from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) by then.

“Works for phase 2 have already commenced on Sept 17 in Lorong Burung Bayan 2, Jalan Burung Bayan, Lorong Burung Sintar, Lorong Burung Sintar 1 and Jalan Burung Cegar.

“The contracts awarded for both phases started on April 25 this year and will run until April 24, 2027,” he said during a press conference at a community hall in Taman Bukit Maluri.

Ainul Azhar said phase three was in the final process of designing, and scheduled to start in June 2026.

Phase 1 of the project will cover 25 roads in the residential area (6,346m) while phase 2 will cover 17 roads (5,295m).

A total of 27 roads will be covered by phase 3 of the project.

All existing asbestos cement (AC) pipes will be replaced with ductile iron (DI) pipes with diameters ranging from 150mm to 350mm.

Ainul Azhar said the AC pipes dating back to the 1970s could no longer withstand high water pressure.

He also said a WhatsApp group would soon be set up to allow residents to communicate with contractors and consultants throughout the project period.

“Residents can also lodge complaints regarding any issues that arise during the project period through Air Selangor’s helpline, website and app,” he added.

Present were Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh, Segambut Residents Representative Council zone 1 vice-chairman Lee Lai Sim, Persatuan Penduduk Taman Bukit Maluri chairman Ng Cheong Hock and Yeoh’s political secretary Yap Yee Vonne.

Yeoh said Taman Bukit Maluri was facing critical water disruption, driving the need for pipe replacement.

“A total of 364 cases of pipe leakages and burst pipes were recorded in the residential area from 2023 until August this year,” she said.

“From January to August this year alone, some 128 cases of pipe leakages and three cases of burst pipes have been recorded.”

She added that Air Selangor had been alerted of water disruption in other areas in the constituency, including in Medan Damansara and Kampung Segambut.

Ng said Taman Bukit Maluri residents would enjoy stable supply and cleaner water once the project was completed.

“The affected roads will also be resurfaced,” he added.
