DATARAN Putrajaya turned into a spectacle of diverse hues as Malaysians of all creed and colour took part in national-level celebrations of the country’s independence.

A key highlight for many was the impressive show of solidarity and strength from the uniformed forces.

Soldiers, the police, firefighters and other service members marched with great pride and conviction – a sight that always fills onlookers with a sense of security and honour.

Some departments were accompanied by their animals in service, and some, like the cute orange cat Yeyen with the Civil Defence Force, drew many smiles and laughter.

The parade marking the 68th anniversary of our independence was a vibrant showcase of the country’s unique beauty and culture.

The various states and federal territories were also represented through Tourism Ministry’s trishaws decorated with their unique selling points, while another highlight were Visit Malaysia 2026 sun bear mascots Wira and Manja.

Adding a modern touch to the traditional pomp of the parade, firms from the electric vehicle (EV) industry took part, with an exciting debut of the Proton e.Mas 5 model that is marketed as an affordable EV.

Keeping the young and young-at-heart in mind, there were appearances by beloved Malaysian animation characters from franchises like Didi and Friends, Mechamato, Boboiboy, Omar&Hana and Ejen Ali.

This year’s National Day celebrations drew over 100,000 people, with more than 14,000 individuals participating in the 81 segments of the parade.

Crowds were also entertained by a variety of performances showcasing Malaysia’s races and culture, as well as the rendition of the National Day theme song, Malaysia Madani: Rakyat Disantuni, by the ever popular Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Taruddin.

Many people arrived as early as the evening before to get the best seats, giving them the chance to meet many of the VIPs joining the parade.

Participants also took time in the early hours of the morning to get ready in elaborate costumes and face paints.
