Pekan Sungai Pelek needs more public facilities, including a toilet, says Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) councillor Cheong Wai Shon.

In line with the small town being earmarked for ecotourism in its local plan, he said such facilities were necessary.

Presently, he said visitors there have no choice but to use the toilets at petrol stations, restaurants and shops in the area.

“Sungai Pelek is known for its many dragonfruit farms, but it also has other attractions.

“Many visitors come here to buy other fresh fruits too, like longan and passionfruit.

“You can also find authentic traditional food and drinks, such as mooncakes and mee rojak, besides old-school coffeeshops like Chop Guan Kee Coffee that was established in 1943.

“Nearby mangrove forests also showcase the town’s ecotourism aspects,” Cheong said after the MPSepang full board meeting at its headquarters in Cyberjaya.

MPSepang president Dr Ani Ahmad said she would look into the proposal.

Ani, who has been at the helm for three weeks, explained that she was still getting to know the municipality.
