THE nine traders in Desa Pandan ordered to vacate their stalls for a road-widening project will not be evicted for now.
Titiwangsa MP Datuk Seri Johari Ghani said traders can remain at Jalan 2/76 while Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) develops a reorganisation plan.
"We are not demolishing the stalls at this time," Johari said on Wednesday (July 23) after visiting the site with Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa and Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif.
However, Johari added that DBKL would issue licences only if traders comply with hygiene rules and follow the new layout.
"Some stalls resemble permanent shops. That has to change. They must operate properly," he said.
He added enforcement action would be taken against those who fail to comply with the business licence conditions.
"They will be given time to comply, but it will be at their cost," Johari said.
The decision follows an outcry over DBKL's demolition notices, originally set for July 15, to make way for road widening.
The operation was postponed after an altercation at the site, prompting authorities to engage further with traders.
