The Selangau Health Clinic Haemodialysis Centre has opened, marking a milestone in the provision of rural healthcare services.
Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang, in a statement, described the opening of the centre as a major achievement made possible through close collaboration between the Health Ministry (MOH) and his office.
“I am grateful that the aspiration of setting up a dialysis treatment facility in this area has finally been realised, after I raised the matter multiple times at ministerial level,” he said.
He pointed out that the centre was vital for kidney patients living in rural areas such as Tamin.
These patients previously had to travel long distances to access regular treatment at major hospitals, he said.
At present, the centre is equipped with a single haemodialysis machine.
However, there are plans to gradually increase this to six machines, depending on the deployment of medical staff and additional equipment.
Gira also thanked Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni for his dedication in improving rural healthcare.
“Patients no longer have to endure long, exhausting and costly journeys to Sibu town and elsewhere.
“This development improves our community’s access to quality healthcare,” he added.
Gira described these goals as clear signs of the government’s commitment to ensuring no community was left behind in receiving proper medical care.
