Before the ceremony began, the students were asked to stand and were met with a round of applause.

Among them was Muhammad Noorhisyam, 18, one of the top scorers who achieved 12As.

“My parents were the reason for my achievements in SPM. They were also my biggest supporters,” he said.

Muhammad aspires to be a mechanical engineer.

“We are the generation that will shape the country’s future,” he added.

The awards ceremony was an initiative by Kota Kemuning assemblyman Preakas Sampunathan, who said it was a way to inspire the next generation of Malaysian leaders.

“I want to do something to appreciate students’ efforts and motivate them to move forward.

“However, this event is also for the parents and teachers, to appreciate their work,” he said.

Preakas said he hoped to make the event an annual affair as it reflected his ongoing commitment to supporting educational development among youths.
