The scenic and rugged terrain of Kemensah in Hulu Kelang, Selangor, was the draw for 1,600 runners taking on the King of Kemensah Trail (KOKT) 2025.
The 11th edition of the event involved local trail running enthusiasts as well as those from 22 other countries including the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, the Philippines and Vietnam.
The event, organised by Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ), Hoka and running events group The Comrades with support from Tourism Selangor, comprised 50km, 30km, 18km, 15km, 10km and 5km distances.
Participation was also categorised under Men’s and Women’s Open (ages 18-39) and Men’s and Women’s Veteran (over 40), while the 5km fun run was open to ages 10 and above.
The races covered some of Kemensah’s most rugged terrain, with waterfalls, thick jungle paths and the popular Bukit Pau among course features.
Slippery slopes, muddy tracks and steep climbs tested the runners’ endurance.
Yet, they were rewarded with breathtaking views and splashes of cool water.
“Part of a larger trail series that also included events in Sungai Lembing (Pahang) and Lenggong (Perak), KOKT continues to be a highlight on the trail running calendar,” MPAJ said in a statement.
“The event also plays a role in promoting ecotourism in Ampang Jaya, aligning with the Visit Selangor 2025 campaign.”
Present at the event were MPAJ deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari and Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling.
According to the official results, the overall winner of the 50km race, as well as taking her third straight win in the Women’s Veteran category was Yee Leng Cheng, who came in with a time of 7 hours, 32 minutes and 28 seconds.
