EXTENDING the Smart Selangor bus service permits to three years are among suggestions raised at the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) full board meeting yesterday.

The permits currently have a one-year limit.

Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim said this would be among matters discussed with relevant parties.

“At the moment the permit renewal is done annually and this takes time.

“While this is taking place, bus users are the ones affected,” he said at the MBSJ headquarters in USJ5.

The permit application for the bus service is being handled by the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad).

Amirul Azizan said MBSJ wanted a meeting with Apad, together with bus operator SKS Coachbuilders Sdn Bhd.

The meeting should also include Subang Jaya assemblymen and city councillors to resolve the issue, he said.

The mayor took to task the relevant department heads for failing to secure the permits on time.

“You have failed and I have failed as a mayor.

“The residents are angry with us,” he said.

Councillor Lee Jen Uyin said a resident was emotional because her child depended on the free bus service to get to school.

She said councillors were in the dark over the bus permit renewals when questioned by residents over the bus service disruptions.

It was reported that two free bus service routes – SJ02 and SJ04 (out of an initial five) – had been suspended.

On Monday, Apad clarified that the temporary suspension of the bus service along five routes under MBSJ was due to the bus operator’s late submission and non-compliance with key requirements.

MBSJ, in a social media post, said three bus service routes had resumed.
