YANGON: Myanmar's capital Naypyitaw launched electric bus services on Monday (July 6) as part of efforts to promote cleaner public transportation, an official from the bus operating company said on Tuesday.
"We started operations in Naypyitaw on Monday and launched services on four routes," Aung Thu Moe from the bus operating company Yar Zar Min Express said.
"At present, we have only one electric bus operating in Naypyitaw. However, additional buses that have arrived at the port will be deployed soon," he said.
He said that electric buses are also operating on intercity routes connecting Yangon and Mandalay, Naypyitaw and Mandalay, and Yangon and Mawlamyine.
He said the buses are imported from China and provide a quieter and more comfortable travel experience, with effective air conditioning, environmental benefits and without engine noise.
According to Myanmar's Road Transport Administration Department, the South-East Asian country had registered 40,490 electric vehicles, including nine electric buses, as of June 2026. - Xinhua
