DBKL’s new skatepark in Taman Tasik Titiwangsa good for leisure, tournaments
THRILL seekers looking for their next adrenaline fix can head to a skatepark in Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur.
What used to house a lakeside restaurant and parking lot has been transformed by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) into a skatepark.
The skatepark also has bicycle lanes and a promenade for parkgoers wanting to enjoy a stroll by the lake.
At its launch, Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif said the park was part of DBKL’s effort to encourage healthy lifestyles among urban folk.
“This project is also aimed at enhancing community spirit and interaction between people of different backgrounds,” she said, adding the park reflected DBKL’s push for low-carbon development and green facilities.
City Hall said in a statement that it took a year to build the facility, which was completed on Nov 7 last year. It has been operational since Jan 1.
Maimunah said the park would provide youths, skateboarding and inline skating enthusiasts a safe place to practise their hobby and spend their leisure time.
“Instead of playing by roadsides or housing areas and causing a nuisance, they can come here,” she said.
The mayor added she would look into suggestions for tournaments to be held to promote the skatepark, which is open daily from 7am to 10pm.
